How would you like the title as New Zealand's Ultimate Triathlete? Well it is now possible, we have put this series together to do exactly this. Many athletes have a specialty distance that they excel at, or can lay claim to be a local champion or even national champion of sprint, short course or long course triathlons, but this series will allow you to compete for the ultimate title.
The Ultimate Triathlete is a series of point based triathlons that will be undertaken throughout the South Island during the summer of 2012/2013.
The series consists of the following races:
- Rolf Prima Half Ironman (1.9k swim, 90k Ride, 21k Run) - Ashburton - November 10th 2012
- 76.5 Challenge (1.5km Swim, 60km Bike, 15km Run) - Gore - December 8th 2012
- Lake Hayes Triathlon (1.5km Swim, 40km Bike, 10km Run) - Arrowtown - December 27th 2012
- Tri Grand Prix (Swim 250, Cycle 6.6km, Run 1 mile (1600m) x 3) - Pegasus (Christchurch) - February 9th 2013
Each event will allow you to accumulate points; the points will be allocated depending on your finishing position. Through the series you will be allowed to drop your weakest race, meaning that your top 3 finishes count, your points will then be combined to get your total. This allows you to miss one event, however, you must enter the series event to be eligible. You cannot enter 3 individual events.
This series is non discriminative due to the format New Zealand’s Ultimate Triathlete is winnable by either sex in any age group, whether they are short course, long course, or sprint athletes. So long as you are ready to give it a crack and are consistent, you’re in for a chance
The title will also be placed on all the age group categories as well as the individual Ultimate Triathlete.
- Challenge Wanaka (3.8km Swim, 180km Bike, 42km Run) - Wanaka - January 19th 2013
There is also the added incentive that if you are an Ultimate Triathlete competitor we have been offered our own swim start. So remember when you sign up for Challenge Wanaka you will have to indicate you are a part of the Ultimate Triathlete series. We will have a separate reward for the iron distance racers.
An interesting concept and challenge. Great to see it based in the South Island too, making all events easily accessible to our club members. For full details, click on the link below.
