A hardy 12 athletes turned up at Karitane on a drizly cool day. Another new course this year took the athletes on a two lap run from along the hard pack sand beach and back to transition. This was followed by an out-and-back challenging loop on the bike from Karitane to Warrington. Finishing with one more lap of the run course.
Some very close and exciting racing throughout the field initially saw Anthony take a small lead on the run from Guy. A very fast bike over the hilly course had the two front runners into transition hot on each others heals. Guy eventually taking out the race with a narrow 11 second advantage. Nichole took out the Open Womens class with a very fast 1:15:42, with Warren taking out Junior Males
Mechanical troubles on the bike leg unfortunately took out a couple of athletes with Amelia having issues with her brakes and quite rightly taking the safe option on a wet and hilly course. by all accounts Lindsay was lucky to control his bike after a puncture on a downhill section. Hopefull you both have a little more luck at the next event.
Congratulations to all athletes. See you all next month back out on the Taieri on September 16th for the Otago Duathlon Champs.
