Race Distance:

Multisport Event : 6km Kayak, 11km Run and a 28km Mountain Bike

Roadbike Option: 6Km Kayak, 11Km Run and 35Km Road Bike

Duathlon Event: 11km Run and a 28km Mountain Bike

Multispot event 2: kayak/kayak/bike

Event Details

Course Details (All events):


Kayak Course: Start at Knarston Park – paddle up to the start of the Millennium Track at Henly (6km)

Run Course : Run the length of the Millennium Track (10km majority of the track is a well formed single track) – onto Riverside Road (Gravel Road) turning right out to Palmer Place and around on the open road to Knarston Park). 

Mountain Bike Stage: Leave Knarston Park turn left onto Moturata Road, Road head out through Taieri Beach (sealed Road), past the Taieri Beach School, the old Forestry Headquarters and towards Akatore, onto Akatore Road which becomes Gravel Road down the hill over the Akatore Bridge where you will enter the Forest via Pleasant Rd through the forest take the first left forestry road up Level Road which takes you back up onto Akatore Road turn left which will take you back down to the Akatore Bridge – then follow the return route back to Taieri Beach and onto the finish at Knarston Park 

Roadbike Option:  

The ride starts at Knarston Park and heads north, out via the same way you came in on the final stages of the run, you will head over the bridge and carry onto Brighton. This is a well maintained sealed road that follows the beautiful coastline. It is busy open road so please stick to the left. Please stay in single file you may draft but ony f you are practiced in this technique. The road is rather undulating so don’t be fooled. You will into Brighton and turn at the Travis Memorial Carpark which is just before the Brighton Domain. You will then return back to Knarston Park via the same route as you travelled out.

Timetable:

            8:00am - Race Registration and Transition Open for all Events

            9.00am - Race Briefing for all competitors

            9:30am - RACE START: Multisport Event

           10.00am - RACE START: Duathlon Event


Transition:

            The main transition area will be at Knarston Park – this will be clearly marked out. 

Drink Station:

            There will be a drink station available at Knarston Park. (Start/Transition and Finish)

Safety & Race Rules:

Kayak Stage:

  • ·         All kayakers must wear a suitable buoyancy vest
  • ·         If someone is in need competitors must provide assistance until a Safety boat is with the person in distress
  • ·         There will be a number of Surf Rescue Boats on the course to provide assistance as required.          

 Run Stage:

  • There no road closures. All roads are open. Please be aware of all other road users.
  • When running on the track and someone is approaching from behind please allow them to pass when able.
  • Due to the roads being open, iPods or other music devices are not permitted anywhere on the course.



  Transition 2 (Run – MTB)

  • Helmets must be put on and buckled up before bikes are removed from the bike rack. Athletes 
    will be made to stop and do up their helmets before they can progress.
  • Bikes are to be walked/run out of transition to the mount line on Motorata Road. No bikes are  be ridden in the transition area.


           

 

Bike Stage:

  • There no road closures. All roads are open. Please be aware of all other road users and obey 
     all road rules.
  • Due to the roads being open, iPods or other music devices are not permitted anywhere on the course.           
  • Athletes must stay left as practicable at all times. Athletes must never cross the centre line,
    unless required to do so to prevent an accident. This includes, and particularly, as you enter
    and exit a corner. Athletes must slow to ensure they remain on the left side of the road around all corners. Any athlete caught deliberately crossing the centre line will be immediately
    disqualified. There will be marshals on all corners and will be instructed to identify any riders breaking this rule to the Race Director.
  • There will be a lot of athletes on course with varying levels of ability and speed. It is the  responsibility of all athletes to ensure the passing is untaken in a safe manner. Athletes 
    must check behind them to check for vehicles and/or faster approaching athletes before pulling out to pass another athlete.
  • All athletes should endeavour to do the same. A friendly "on your right" can be called 
    out to the leading rider to alert them to your presence.

Finish of the MTB Stage:

  • You can ride your bike through the finish line but we do ask that care is taken as their maybe other competitors and spectators milling around.

Parking:

  • There should be enough parking at Knarston Park, we just ask that all people or courteous.        

Race Cancellation: 

The event will be run in most conditions unless they are determined to be unsafe e.g. icy roads. In the unlikely event that the race is cancelled, an announcement will be made on our Facebook page and local radio station The Hits 89.4FM.

Please be aware to the forecast and come prepared for all weather conditions, before, during and after the event.


Prize Giving

Prize giving will follow the event as soon as the last competitor has finished the event.

Food and other essential services:

The Green Island Lions will be onsite with delicious food, Artison Café with yummy coffee and Blue Boy Ice Creams will be there also – please bring cash for these vendors supporting this event.
